The Leftovers’ Margaret Qualley Cast in Death Note Movie
By Sam Rideout
The Leftovers second season is heading into its final act, but at least one of the actors won’t be looking to have very much downtime. This particular news item doesn’t involve the bigger stars of The Leftovers, such as Justin Theroux, but instead involves one of the supporting actors potentially breaking out. It just might not be the sort of movie project you would have imagined.

According to Deadline, Margaret Qualley — troubled daughter Jill Garvey in The Leftovers — is seconds away from being cast in the American version of the Death Note movie. For those unfamiliar with Death Note, it’s a Japanese property that began as a manga, then moved into anime and finally a couple of live-action movies. This film would serve as the first original American project for Death Note.

Death Note is about a high-school boy who finds a note that grants him the power to kill people by writing their name. If you walked into any Hot Topic in the mid 2000’s, you were likely besieged by Death Note merchandise. It’s safe to say that the craze is over, but Hollywood is going to try to bring it all back.
Death Note is being written by the scribe behind Fantastic Four, so maybe it would be best to stick to cautious optimism at best. The Leftovers has not yet been renewed for a third season, but it would have been out of character for HBO to renew it before the season ended anyway.
