Jimmy Kimmel Fuses Sesame Street and True Detective (Video)

Jimmy Kimmel combines Sesame Street and True Detective, because why not.

We’ve seen some good parodies for True Detective season two, but they can’t compare to what fans and celebrities have done with season one. There has been a serious lack of celebrity True Detective parodies this time around, and unfortunately that is set to continue. Thanks to Jimmy Kimmel we at least have something new for season one.

HBO will be getting their hands on Sesame Street starting January 19th, and that odd bit of news has led to a new True Detective mashup. Jimmy Kimmel Live! saw the potential there and ran with it, showing us what it would be like if Sesame Street and the first season of True Detective were one and the same. This is coming right off the heels of the great Ace Ventura mashup.

It’s a decidedly simple mashup: True Detective dialogue, specifically between Rust and Marty, is dubbed over Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch. Suffice it to say, it works. At the same time it does feel a little tired. True Detective season one has given the world so much in terms of parodies, spoofs, mashups, fan art, and just about anything else you could think of.

Going back to season one when the second season only finished airing in August doesn’t feel natural. Surely they could have found some dialogue between Ray and Frank to use that would have worked just as well.

Next: HBO's Doug Lombardo is taking the blame for True Detective season two.

But since it’s still cool to hate season two, their decision does make some sense.
