Ross Marquand Does a Mean Matthew McConaughey Impression
The Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand does an excellent Matthew McConaughey impression, among others.
No, this isn’t strictly related to True Detective. It’s also barely related to Matthew McConaughey, but it is very much worth seeing. Doing a great Matthew McConaughey impression is not easy; you have to get the southern-baked tone just right.

Mocking his trademark “alright alright alright” is low-hanging fruit — doing a full-on impersonation is something quite different.
That’s where The Walking Dead’s Ross Marquand comes in. The man is ridiculously good at impersonations, as is clearly evident from this video he recorded for Vanity Fair. Check it out:

The clip is a series of “Nano-Impressions,” so each one is just long enough to get the gist. Sometimes that’s all you need. Marquand’s impression of Matthew McConaughey, which can be heard twice, is one of the best impressions we have ever heard. It gets it all so right. Not only that, but he totally kills all of the impressions, including Kevin Spacey, another master of impressions.
Hearing a great Matthew McConaughey impression is a rare thing and is therefore a real treat. He could have done a quick line from True Detective, but it’s an impression of McConaughey, not the character Rust Cohle. So there.
It’s safe to say that Kevin Spacey has some serious competition. We’re also not going to lie here — it would be excellent to hear a full McConaughey impression. If anyone could pull it off, it’s Ross Marquand.

Seriously, he’s awesome.
