Did You Catch all the True Detective Spoofs in Angie Tribeca?
TBS’ new series, Angie Tribeca, is filled to the brim with True Detective references and spoofs.
We’ve talked about Angie Tribeca a couple of times so far, and for good reason — the series is one giant spoof of detective and cop shows/films, including True Detective. TBS aired the entire first season in one 25 hour, commercial-free block, and viewers were treated to a ton of True Detective references.

True Detective is a serious show, especially in its second season. It has been begging for something like Angie Tribeca to come along, especially since celebrities and late night shows have shown little interest in taking it on.

You’ve got the conversations in cars, a scene in a club, and aerial shots. The title card also mimics the True Detective font. Of course, Angie Tribeca contains spoofs on many other shows as well, but it’s fair to say that True Detective gets most of the attention.
Outside of the insane binge there don’t seem to be any concrete plans to air Angie Tribeca in any sort of normal fashion. The series is now available on most video on demand platforms, and that appears to be that. At least for now. It will, however, be getting a second season which will start on January 25th. That’s correct; season two will air just days after season one.

Angie Tribeca season two will air normally, a single episode a week. It will be interesting to see whether or not it will keep the focus on True Detective.
