This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.

Award season continues, but not for True Detective. The SAG Awards are tonight, sans True Detective, but such is life. This past week we saw the renewal of a critically acclaimed drama — again, not True Detective — and took a look a the state of True Detective as January comes to a close.

More from HBO

First up, True Detective season two predictably lost the PGA (Producer’s Guild of America) Award, though they were brave for nominating it in the first place. David Morse, who played Ani Bezzerides’ father, didn’t seem too excited to talk about season two. Nobody does, really.

Cary Fukunaga’s latest film, Beasts of no Nation, isn’t having a great time at the award shows either. The film is being outright snubbed despite its critical standing, leading us and others to believe that there may be internal studio politics at play. Back on the award train, the SAG’s will be True Detective-less tonight, but they will have Rachel McAdams as a presenter.

We took a look at the budding excitement for True Detective season three despite season two’s failures. It is somewhat of a relief that season three is generating buzz after the thrashing season two has had to take. We also explored whether or not season three needs to continue True Detective’s hit or miss use of philosophy.

Finally, House of Cards was renewed this week ahead of its fourth season premiere, prompting us once again to examine just what is happening in the HBO and True Detective camp.
