Stephen King Thinks The Dark Tower Will Happen with Matthew McConaughey

Stephen King says that Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba will likely star in The Dark Tower.

One door closes and another opens. A new adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand — with script already completed — has been put on indefinite hold. That version was set to star Matthew McConaughey, but that doesn’t look like it’s going to pan out. Fortunately it seems like The Dark Tower will actually, seriously, happen. At least according to Stephen King.

More from Show Snob

Stephen King talked to Rolling Stone about The Dark Tower and confirmed that both Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey are in talks to star opposite each other, but he doesn’t know much more than that:

"“I think that it’s more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it,…But I can’t say with any certainty. I know that they’re trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that’s the extent of my knowledge.”"

That’s good enough for now. King also says that “It looks to me like it’s more likely than not it’ll happen at this point,” which is good to hear. King isn’t intimately attached to the supposed adaptation, so it makes sense that he wouldn’t have any more concrete details. The Dark Tower is a sprawling, multi-work epic that Matthew McConaughey would be perfect for.

Nothing besides hearsay has been confirmed so far, so it makes the most sense to remain cautiously optimistic. When it comes to Stephen King adaptations, that’s a relatively healthy state to be in.
