The video game world is gunning for True Detective, and Quantum Break thinks it can pull it off.

True Detective and video games have an odd sort of relationship. Although we unfortunately live in a world without an actual True Detective video game, gamers have embraced the series with open arms. April will see the release of Quantum Break, a game that has been in the making for several years. The studio behind it, Remedy, sat down with Gamespot to talking about what they’re trying to accomplish. Remedy is a renowned studio that created both Max Payne and Alan Wake, two series that did some incredible things with storytelling.

Remedy is quick to admit what they’re going for, and that’s a modern drama feel like “the best HBO shows, like True Detective and Game of Thrones,” says Mikael Kasurinen, the game’s director. True Detective and Remedy are an excellent fit. Games that have played either Max Payne or Alan Wake will likely agree. Their pedigree lies in noir and complicated storytelling.

You can watch at the newest trailer for Quantum Break below:

It’s no wonder that Quantum Break is trying to mimic HBO, as the show has been billed as video game and television show hybrid — you play some, then you watch a little. Alan Wake previously did something like this by including “previously on..” between chapters, and there was also a tie-in mini-series.

Next: This Week in True Detective: Dark Tower Edition.

Quantum Break launches in April, and so we’ll have to wait until then to see if Remedy succeeds.
