This Week in True Detective: Oscars Edition
This Week in True Detective brings the best of True Detective news from the past week.
Well, this is the big weekend. Not for True Detective, of course, but the Oscars are for film only. It could end up being a rather important night for Rachel McAdams, who is nominated for Best Picture contender, Spotlight. This will just about mark the end of award season, or at least the part that everyone cares about.
As mentioned above, Rachel McAdams could win her first Academy Award at this year’s Oscars. The competition is heavy, and she hasn’t been a shoe-in so far. Still, anything could happen. Speaking of awards, The Independent Spirit awards went hog-wild for Spotlight and Cary Fukunaga’s Beasts of no Nation, though Fukunaga himself didn’t win.

This week also saw the continuation of Fukunaga’s It saga, which is finally moving forward. Cary Fukunaga left the project months ago, though it looks like the new version will retain at least some of the teeth that Fukunaga originally imagined. We also saw the first trailer for Matthew McConaughey’s Sea of Trees, which was notoriously booed at Cannes.
McConaughey was honored at a Variety humanitarian event, and while there was grilled about True Detective season three. In Woody Harrelson news, which we don’t get very often, Triple 9 is getting steadily mediocre reviews.
Finally, we took a look at True Detective’s current hiatus in celebration of season two finishing up six months ago. It doesn’t seem that long ago, but we’ll likely be waiting a bit more before HBO is ready to talk about season three.
Next: Spotlight and Beasts of no Nation ruled the Spirit Awards.
