Cary Fukunaga Signs on for Another TV Series with Paramount
Cary Fukunaga will direct another series for television under the production of Anonymous Content.
Before The Alienist has even officially cast its lead role, Cary Fukunaga has signed on to direct yet another TV series. At this point it looks like it’s going to be quite a while until Fukunaga is able to return to directing movies. Not that we have any problem with that as long as his other projects are even half as good as the first season of True Detective.
Deadline is reporting that Cary Fukunaga will direct an American remake of the Norwegian series, Maniac. Oh, and it will star Jonah Hill and Emma Stone. Consider this another case of movie stars seeing the potential greener pastures of television, though it’s unknown if either Hill or Stone intend to stay on for multiple seasons.

The series is about a couple of patients at a mental institution imagining their perfect lives. Described as a “dark comedy,” it could end up being a fun time if you like that sort of thing. Dark comedies also happen to be in right now, with Zach Galafanakis seeing major success with his new FX series, Baskets.
It’s very early days for Maniac. There is currently no writer — only a cast and a director. The series will apparently be looking for a two-season commitment up-front, and don’t expect to see Maniac before 2017. There is currently no word on what channel the series could end up on, though Anonymous Content has good relationships with both HBO and TNT.

Anonymous Content has been everywhere recently. The company itself, or those helming it, have been responsible for True Detective, Mr. Robot, Spotlight, The Knick, and other critically acclaimed projects. Another series produced by them that has Cary Fukunaga on board is more than welcome.
