Don’t Expect to See True Detective Season Three This Summer

We’re almost a year away from when True Detective season two premiered.

Spring is almost upon us. This time last year, that mean that True Detective season two was almost here. The hype-machine was in full swing, though that was before all of that poor early reviews landed. By this point we also had a fair number of casting rumors and confirmations to go on, and Nic Pizzolatto had already talked about the general plot for season two.

As it stands right now, we don’t have anything of the sort. There haven’t been any casting rumors for months and Nic Pizzolatto has been as silent as ever. HBO still hasn’t said that True Detective season three is actually happening, though at this point it would only be a formality.

There is no way that True Detective season three will air this summer, and there is nothing wrong with that. Season two aired more than a year after this first, and as far as we know there will be an even longer gap between seasons two and three. HBO also has another crime drama lined up for this summer to take True Detective’s place.

True Detective fans will just have to wait until its ready. Hopefully the extra time will lead to a stronger season overall. For True Detective fans eager to bite into another dark series, there are a few eligible choices. The Path starts on Hulu next week, and HBO will offer up the aforementioned The Night Of in a couple of months.

Next: The Path is getting good early reviews.

When True Detective does eventually return, expect HBO to make a bit more of a fuss about it than it did with season two.
