Kelly Reilly is in talks to star in Britannia, a limited series on Sky.

Look, some actual news about Kelly Reilly!

Kelly Reilly got the shortened of the stick with True Detective season two. She wasn’t bad or miscast in her role as Jordan Semyon, Frank’s wife, but she didn’t get much character development and is ultimately saddled with a somewhat awkward ending. She was also involved in one of season two’s weakest moments, when she and Frank have their final moment together in the season finale.

Deadline is now reporting that Kelly Reilly is close to signing on for Britannia for Sky TV. The series is about the Roman invasion of the eventual Great Britain. Reilly will play Kerra, one of the lead roles. This is the first major Kelly Reilly news to come out in some time. For theater-lovers, she did star in an excellent rendition of Old Times on Broadway.

Britannia is reportedly going for a premium feel, perhaps like HBO’s Rome. We won’t know how it turns out for a while, though hopefully Reilly won’t be wasted. Compared to the other major stars of True Detective season two, Reilly ended up being mostly ignored. She certainly isn’t as well-known in the states as Vince Vaughn or Rachel McAdams are.

Besides Old Times and starring in Bastille Day, things have been quiet for Kelly Reilly since True Detective ended. It’s been less than a year since the season ended, but many of the other stars have serious projects lined up. In that sense, Reilly hasn’t really been up to much.

Next: Now we know how many cigarettes Rust smokes in True Detective.

Unfortunately True Detective didn’t end up being Reilly’s breakthrough in America liked we hoped it would be. She deserves to be as well-known as Idris Elba; she just needs the right part and project to make it happen.
