Doctor Who Season 10: Is Peter Capaldi’s Doctor regenerating early?

If the Doctor isn’t regenerating until the Christmas special why tease his regeneration in the series 10 trailer?

We’ve got a trailer for Doctor Who series 10 and as expected it’s full of timey-wimey hijinks and lots of running. The trailer also includes a shot of the Doctor possibly regenerating. That regeneration shot has caused quite the stir with Whovians.

If the Doctor isn’t regenerating until the Christmas special why would you tease the regeneration now? Well Nerdist has an interesting theory on that; what if the Doctor is regenerating sooner than expected?

The tease might mean that Peter Capaldi is leaving the show much sooner than expected. It wouldn’t be surprising for Capaldi to dip out a little bit early, we’ve known that he was leaving the show for quite some time. The last two Doctors left the show on or around the Christmas special, perhaps Moffat is mixing it up?

Steven Moffat might be the most compelling reason, outside of the trailer, to think that Capaldi might be leaving Doctor Who early. It’s not just Capaldi leaving the show, Moffat himself is near the end of his time as Doctor Who showrunner.

We know that Moffat has been teasing a “huge event” for Whovians before he goes. Adding fuel to the fire we had rumors swirling a few months ago that we might possibly see some former Doctors returning to Doctor Who.

There’s also the possibility that we could get some sort of degeneration for the Doctor. This is the first regeneration the Doctor will have had since the Time Lord’s gave him extra regenerations after all. And of course we should never count out some sort of trickery from Missy.

A huge event, a possible early regeneration, Moffat’s last hurrah? Geronimo and allons y we might be in for something special.

Doctor Who series 10 is set to premiere on April 15th.
