It’s not the same old Doctor in series 10 according to Digital Spy. Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat says that Peter Capaldi’s Doctor has changed for this season, and that much of that is because of his new companion Bill Potts. Here’s some of what Moffat said about the 12th Doctor and Bill Potts:
"“From the off, he adores her… and in ways that are hard to define, you will see a different version [of Capaldi’s Doctor].”"

It sounds like we may be looking at a relationship that hearkens all the way back to the very first Doctor and his granddaughter. Digital Spy also confirmed that one of the big reveals from the first episode of Doctor Who series 10 is that the Doctor still carries a picture of his granddaughter.
After all the quasi romantic relationships from the runs of David Tennant and Matt Smith this will be a welcome change of dynamic. We just wish the change had happened earlier in Peter Capaldi’s run as the Doctor. This companion dynamic change might have helped center Capadli’s Doctor a bit and not made him seem quite so all over the place; coming off as cantankerous in one episode and manic and fun in the next.
