Pearl Mackie Says She’s Never Watched Doctor Who
New Doctor Who companion Pearl Mackie says she’s never watched Doctor Who before.
Actress Pearl Mackie, who plays new companion Bill Potts on Doctor Who, says she’s never watched the classic science fiction show before. The revelation came during an interview with The One Show on April 12th.
Of course, you can’t blame anyone for not knowing a bit of trivia. Doctor Who is a huge franchise and knowing all the who trivia out there is a tall order for anyone. Admitting that you’ve never watched Doctor Who though when you’re the new companion is another thing altogether.

Pearl Mackie probably isn’t the first new companion to have never watched the show before boarding the TARDIS, but you shouldn’t admit that! Whovians dearly love Doctor Who and when you’re a companion you’re taking a big part in the thing they love. Admitting that you’ve never watched it, even in preparation for this part, is bound to cause waves.
That all being said, I haven’t seen any Whovians who are mad about this. Doctor Who fans don’t care about Pearl’s past with the show, they care about the future. (Although we all know that time isn’t linear, it’s more like a ball, a timey-wimey ball.) By all accounts, Pearl Mackie is fantastic as Bill Potts and adds a fun new dynamic to the show. Truly what more could a Whovian ask for?
