Last week all across the internet, it seemed sure that Kris Marshall was set to be the next Doctor of Doctor Who... but that was last week. Now it’s all been turned upside down as Nerdist is reporting that Michaela Coel is going to be the Doctor.
You might best know Michaela Coel as the creator and star of British sitcom Chewing Gum. Chewing Gum was a sudden breakout hit in the UK and has been finding audiences in the States through Netflix.
Now, this is just another rumor, but Nerdist seems very confident in their source. It seemed like the BBC was all set to go back to a Matt Smith and Amy Pond style Doctor Who with Kris Marshall, but this would certainly turn that idea on its head. We’ve had rumors of a female doctor before though, and been disappointed before.
The Doctor has regenerated time and time again, it just seems odd that he always seems to pick similar forms. A female Doctor would give the show a new energy and allow Doctor Who to explore the universe from a new perspective. In our opinion, this would be a much better move than going back to ground that we’ve already covered.
