The Doctor returns with a smile for the second episode of Doctor Who series 10. Just don’t mistake a smile for happiness, because these emoji bots are anything but happy campers. Pearl and the Doctor are off on their very first proper adventure in the TARDIS.

Our Doctor and companion duo hit the ground running with a trip into the distant future and a human colony planet. Things on this planet aren’t what they seem though as the humans seem to be missing and the planet’s only residents seem to be super creepy little robots that use emojis to communicate.

The emoji bots aren’t the most intimidating looking robots in the world, but they are deadly. They use a swarm of tiny robots to consume their victims in a whirlwind of death. The innocent and harmless look of the emoji bots with their small stature and friendly emojis is exactly why they are a wonderful Doctor Who villain though. The emoji bots might be the creepiest Doctor Who villain since the Weeping Angels. If you’re a Whovian you know that comparing a monster to the Weeping Angels is high praise.

This wonderfully creepy adventure into the dark side of emojis was another outstanding Doctor Who episode. Doctor Who is hitting heights it hasn’t reached in a long time with series 10. We give Doctor Who “Smile” an A.
