Fargo Season 3, Episode 3 preview: ‘The Law of Non-Contradiction’ (Video)
By Hector Cruz
The third episode of “Fargo” Season 3 will focus on Gloria uncovering more details on Ennis’ past.
Former Eden Valley police chief Gloria will be hitting the road to further look into the secret past of her stepfather, Ennis Stussy, who was murdered in the Season 3 premiere in a case of mistaken identity.
The upcoming Fargo episode entitled “The Law of Non-Contradiction” will also head back to the 70’s to give viewers a glimpse of Ennis’ former life as Thaddeus Mobley, an award-winning science fiction writer played in flashbacks by Thomas Mann (Me and Earl and the Dying Girl). The synopsis for the new episode reads:
"Gloria revisits her stepfather’s past to try and find some answers."

Unsurprisingly, the preview for the May 3rd installment focuses almost exclusively on Gloria as she interviews a waitress who appears to be the woman in the glamor shot that was discovered along with the sci-fi novels and a newspaper clipping in a box under Ennis’ floorboards.
However, it’s unclear how much help she’ll be as the woman explains that the 70’s is “not a very clear time for me,” though we do get a few glimpses of the past.
The clip begins with Gloria speaking on the phone with her son, who notes that Ennis wasn’t actually his grandfather. “Well, he was something to somebody,” she replies.
In episode two, the police officer revealed that Ennis married her mother when she was six years old and that the couple were only together for four years, but she decided to have him play a bigger role in her life to serve as a male role model for her son after his dad left her for a man.
We also briefly see Ennis’ dark and empty wake. The promo ends with Gloria’s colleague informing her that they pulled some prints, which will undoubtedly help her in her investigation, inching closer to when her story intersects with Ray Stussy and Nikki Swango.
The couple dropped an air conditioner on stoner parolee Maurice’s head after he killed Ennis in a failed effort to steal a valuable stamp from what he thought was Ray’s brother’s house.

According to the Los Angeles Times, some of the episode was filmed on location in LA where Gloria traveled to learn more about Thaddeus Mobley.
As seen in an exclusive clip posted to the show’s Facebook page, it’s there that Gloria interacts with a character played by a mustachioed Rob McElhenney of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, becoming the second cast member from the FX comedy to appear on the show following Glenn Howerton’s turn as the overly tan personal trainer Don Chumph in season one.

The scene takes place in a busy bar where the pair meets for drinks. Talk quickly turns to Gloria’s aversion to technology when she tells him that she’s not on Facebook, much to his surprise.
Fargo creator Noah Hawley previously revealed that the current third season set in 2010 would take on the narcissism surrounding “selfie culture.”
Fargo season 3, episode 3 “The Law of Non-Contradiction” airs Wednesday, May 3rd at 10 p.m. ET on FX.
