True Detective Moving On Without Woody Harrelson
By Shawn Lealos
The first season of HBO’s True Detective was a fantastic and critically acclaimed drama with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson starring as two police detectives on the trail of a serial killer.
The second season brought in Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell but was nowhere near as good as that first season.
A third season is coming with Mahershala Ali (Moonlight) starring as a police detective investigating a murder in the Ozarks. However, fans of the series have started to ask if there was a chance that Harrelson and McConaughey could return in the future.
Matthew McConaughey said that, if the script were right, he would consider a return, but if he does it will be without Woody Harrelson. While talking to Yahoo! Entertainment, Harrelson said that coming back to True Detective is not something in which he is interested.

"“I don’t see doing that. No. Because it went very well the first time and if we come back around to it, what else are you going to hear but, ‘Not as good! Just wasn’t as good. Boy, you guys were good before, but this time…’ I don’t want to even hear that.”"
Woody Harrelson seems to have his pulse on how fans of TV shows and movies react to sequels. He knows full well that he could return with McConaughey and odds are, no matter how good the script is, most fans would think it is subpar to the first one.
With that in mind, it might be smarter for Harrelson to move on to the next script and project and not look back and return to True Detective.
Next: HBO moving forward with True Detective season 3
Creator Nic Pizzolatto is returning for season three to write the script and co-direct alongside Jeremy Saulnier (Green Room). The disappointing season two had various directors, so there is hope keeping this a little more focused will help it improve.
