The situation has grown quite dire for Queen Elizabeth II in this all-new trailer for The Crown season 2.

When last we saw Queen Elizabeth II on Netflix’s hit drama, The Crown, she had just replaced her long-time Prime Minister — Winston Churchill — with a pale shadow of a man in Harold Macmillan, she had strong ideas that her husband Prince Philip was cheating on her, and her sister absolutely hated her.

That was season 1, and when The Crown returns to Netflix for season 2 on December 8, the Queen of England’s life hasn’t gotten any easier. In that regard, the streaming service has just released an all-new trailer for season 2. Check it out:

"With the world undergoing great changes, a damaged British monarchy must confront its past in order to have a future."

Well then, that sounds rather ominous. This trailer shows just enough to reel in fans of the show who were on the fence about returning to a drama based on the real life of Queen Elizabeth II. As you can see, the Queen is still embroiled in scandal with her husband, while her sister is achieving new heights of debauchery, and, her mother doesn’t seem pleased in the least bit.

Queen Elizabeth will have to maneuver the tumultuous and changing times in England, as he brings the monarchy out of its past and into the future. The Crown season 2 will star:

  • Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth
  • Matt Smith as Philip
  • Vanessa Kirby as Princess Margret (Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister)
  • Eileen Atkins as Queen Mary (Queen Elizabeth’s mother)
  • Alex Jennings as Edward (the once King who abdicated his throne for the love of a woman)
  • Michael C. Hall as President John F. Kennedy
  • Jodi Balfour as Jacqueline Kennedy
