Rejoice, Star Wars fans, it’s finally happening! Disney is moving forward with a live-action Star Wars TV series.

The folks at Lucasfilm and Disney have been very busy, as of late. With a potentially huge blockbuster in Star Wars: The Last Jedi hitting theaters worldwide on December 15, one might think that would be enough, but that is not the case, as Heroic Hollywood has reported that the Mouse is finally ready to step into the world of live-action television for the Star Wars universe.

During Disney’s quarterly earnings meeting on Thursday, CEO Bob Iger announced the company’s upcoming streaming service would have a live-action Star Wars series.

"Our advantage as a company is to take advantages that exist out there for good television and take advantage of it."

That’s a lot of advantages, but I digress. Disney’s streaming service should be launched sometime around 2019, when the company will be pulling all of its films from Netflix, the current streaming service Disney has a deal with. That means all Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar films will no longer be a part of Netflix with Disney’s streaming service goes live.

No word on the Marvel Netflix hero series, as yet, but since they were in part created by Netflix, I would hazard a guess Disney won’t be able to pull them from their current home.

As for the Star Wars live-action TV series, there has been no word on what timeline Disney/Lucasfilm will choose as its backdrop. With the current sequel trilogy in theaters, and with films telling stories from around the original trilogy timeline (Rogue One, Han Solo), the studio may choose to go with fan-favorite Knights of the Old Republic era.
