Stephen Dorff joins the cast of True Detective season 3
True Detective season 3 adds actor Stephen Dorff to its growing cast.
Season 3 of HBO’s True Detective will take place in Northwest Arkansas, amidst the beautiful backdrop of the Ozarks. However, the story won’t match its scenery, as it will follow a “macabre crime in the heart of the Ozarks and a mystery that deepens over decades and plays out in three separate time periods.”

The first actor to come on board was actor Mahershala Ali who will portray Wayne Hays, a State Police detective from Northwest Arkansas. And, now it appears as if we know who the second lead for the show is, as HBO announced that Stephen Dorff will portray “Roland West, an Arkansas State Investigator who, along with his partner, has his life and career influenced over three decades by a baffling crime.”
It is important to note that HBO does not confirm Dorff will play the partner to Ali’s character, but he is the second star to be officially announced as a cast member. And, the description of Roland West reads like he will be Wayne Hays’ partner, so we’re putting two and two together, for now.
Creator Nick Pizzolato is the lone writer for season 3 of True Detective, except for episode 4, which he co-wrote with David Milch (Deadwood). Jeremy Saulnier (Blue Ruin) joins Pizzolato as season 3’s director.

Dorff recently appeared on FOX’s Star, in the role of Bobby Dean. However, he is likely most well-known for his role as Deacon Frost in 1998’s Blade.
