Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot finds its lead
After Netflix took over the Sabrina The Teenage Witch reboot from The CW, the casting rumors began to get larger due to the popularity of the streaming network.
Turns out, the series landed one of the best talents in young Hollywood with Mad Men alum, Kiernan Shipka in the titular role. With the new series already extremely popular due to the success of Riverdale, her casting only adds more excitement to a promising show.
The series is going to have a much different take than the original show which was considered more of a teen comedy.

Based on the critically acclaimed graphic novel, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Netflix says the show will focus more on the early horror roots rather than humor and follow the dark coming-of-age-story of the titular young witch. Compared to Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist, the show definitely needs someone who can handle the more serious material.
This makes Kiernan Shipka’s casting as Sabrina even more perfect because the acting veteran should have no problem tackling the darker themes. Her character on Mad Men was a scene stealer from the get-go and that alone will inspire a lot of confidence for fans of Sabrina The Teenage Witch. Of course, that isn’t her only claim to fame, with an impressive recurring role on Feud: Bette & Joan and one of the leads of indie horror film, The Blackcoat’s Daughter.
Written and produced by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the mind behind Riverdale, most of the details surrounding the new Netflix drama are being kept under wrap. For example, will it take place in the 1960’s or in a mix between modern/vintage era like The CW series?

With the series aiming for a 2018-2019 release, more information will probably come out as shooting continues. However, since the show will be produced by Greg Berlanti (just like Riverdale), it seems like a crossover between the two series will still be possible.
