Hulu officially renewed their first Marvel series, Runaways, for a second season after the critical success from this year.

A co-production with ABC Studios, Runaways took the streaming service by storm this year with high viewership numbers as well. An easy renewal decision, fans will be excitedly awaiting the return of this series.

Brian K. Vaughan created the comic book series revolving around teenagers who aren’t exaggerating how awful their parents are because they turn out to be villains. The minds behind the television show, Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, kept that same idea but decided to flesh out the parents to be more than just one-note baddies. While the kids run away pretty quickly in the comics, the show takes their sweet time, allowing for the relationships to develop and have the audience invest more in this version.

Runaways just wrapped its freshman run and the show left a lot of dangling plot threads. With the kids and the parents all split into different factions, it will be interesting to see what alliances could form in the upcoming season.

While the kids finally fulfilled the series title in the finale, the show will be forced to evolve into something different entirely. The parents and their children will no longer be locked in a cycle of secrets now that everything is out in the open which shakes up the status quo quite a bit. Thankfully, the entire slate of series regulars made it out of the first season alive and that means that the characters fans have grown to love will all be returning.

The first Marvel series to be focused on the West Coast and center around more of a family drama. While The Gifted is also exploring the positive family dynamic, Runaways focuses more on the severed relationship between parent and child.

The second season will continue to explore the betrayal and lack of trust between all parties but everyone can probably agree that these kids are going to need a lot of therapy when this is all done.
