Stranger Things season 3 promises a break for Will Byers

The past two seasons of Stranger Things has put everyone through the ringer, but none more than poor Will Byers.

His disappearance was the catalyst that kicked off the series and since then he’s sunk further into despair. Luckily Shawn Levy, the producer and director of the show, promises that the young boy will finally get to relax because he won’t constantly be haunted by his time in the Upside Down.

When speaking with Glamour, Levy reassured fans that Noah Schnapp would get a break from the endless torture he’s endured.

"We’re going to give Will a break. We’re not going to put Will through hell for a third season in a row. He’ll be dealing with stuff, but he won’t be at rock bottom the way we forced the amazing Noah Schnapp to play."

There’s no denying that Schnapp’s performance was one of the standouts of the year, as he was forced to reckon with a Shadow Monster who wanted to use him as a puppet. However, since the rest of the ensemble has gotten the opportunity to kick back during their battle against evil, it’s only fair that someone else step-up to bat and be the punching bag for a season.

Levy also cautions fans from just assuming that Dustin or Hopper would become the next targets because there’s going to be an entirely new form of evil haunting their small town.

Things won’t be entirely bleak in Hawkins because Levy has promised the return of fan-favorite pairing: Steve and Dustin. The highlight of Stranger Things season two, the duo inspired plenty of memes and adoration from fans. Unsurprisingly, Levy says the show will continue to flesh out that relationship and that the two will become more like brothers rather than a cute odd couple.

"In season two, it was all very cute and there was a funny factor to it because it was unexpected, but now that it is expected, I want to see them connect more and be more familiar with each other. I want them to have a connection like they’ve really had a connection for a year—like they’re brothers."

While Stranger Things season 3 is still a long ways away, this little tidbit will only have fans more excited for the show to return.

While Shawn Levy seems willing to tease viewers a bit with information on the kids, he’s keeping his mouth shut when it comes to the return of Hawkins Laboratory staff. When asked about Paul Reiser’s return, he kept quiet on whether the scientist would make his way back to Hawkins.
