Is The Walking Dead planning to kill off Maggie?

The Walking Dead midseason finale ended with a shocking moment, as Carl Grimes revealed he was bitten and is dying.

That was shocking because Carl is a huge part of The Walking Dead comic book series and many fans predicted that he would become the leader once the series finally pulls the trigger and kills Rick, and it is a future with Carl that will conclude the comic series once and for all.

If Carl dies, which most people expect, that cannot happen (Robert Kirkman, the comic’s creator, has said that Carl is not guaranteed to die on the show)

However, supposing that Carl does die, that will cause the TV series to make an irreversible movement away from The Walking Dead comic book source material. Carl is instrumental in the entire Whisperers storyline, and that will have to change when they appear on the AMC zombie show.

Now, there are rumors that another hugely important character from the comic books might die as well.

Maggie is the leader at The Hilltop and becomes an essential character, equal to Rick Grimes when it comes to power and influence. However, due to news from Variety that actress Lauren Cohan is fielding new offers to star in a new TV show.

The site reports that there are a large number of offers for the 2018 television season, as is the norm for this time of the year. The interesting thing is that Cohan has received a half-dozen offers so far for the pilots.

This follows the news that Cohan had asked for a raise in pay, hoping for something closer to her male co-stars Andrew Lincoln and Norman Reedus. Those two men are paid significantly more than any female on the show, and Cohan hoped for a bump in pay based on her role on the show.

AMC offered her a modest raise, but she rejected it, which Variety reports are standard for negotiations for actors. However, AMC never returned with another offer and Cohan’s contract with The Walking Dead expires at the end of this season. If Cohan is getting offers for new TV shows in 2018, it seems reasonable to reason that she learned that her character would depart the show at the end of the eighth season.

Luckily for fans of Lauren Cohan, Maggie and The Walking Dead, there are still openings for talks on a bump in pay for the actress and a chance for her to return in season nine.

However, if those fail to result in a bump in pay, the new rumors of 2018 pilots with Cohan could end up having The Walking Dead‘s ninth season open with another tragic end.
