Arnold Schwarzenegger wants to be a cowboy for Amazon Prime

Arnold Schwarzenegger will join Amazon Prime for a new TV series and will, of all things, play a cowboy.

Deadline reports that the Austrian oak will star in the Amazon Prime scripted series Outrider, which takes place in the 1800’s Oklahoma Indian Territory. Arnold will portray a ruthless Federal Marshall who teams up with a deputy to bring in a legendary outlaw who is hiding in the wilderness.

Schwarzenegger’s character is said to be there to ensure that “justice is properly served” by the ruthless and brutal judge that sends them on the mission. The story is reported to have twists and turns with the line between good and evil blurred.

If it seems strange to see Schwarzenegger as a cowboy, the plot reveals that he is a Federal Marshall who “immigrated to the US from Europe as a child.”

This has to be the most ironic timing of any new television news. Just this week, Amazon Prime also announced that they are bringing Conan the Barbarian to the small screen as a new scripted series. The most famous adaptation of the Conan story starred Schwarzenegger in his breakout role.

Maybe getting Arnold in this new western series was a way to clear the path to bring Conan the Barbarian to the Amazon Prime service as an original series.

According to the reports, Schwarzenegger will both produce and star in the Outrider series, although the deal has not been inked yet. If Amazon Prime orders the series, it will mark the very first television series that Schwarzenegger has ever starred in (not counting The New Celebrity Apprentice).

Joining Arnold Schwarzenegger for this possible new Amazon Prime scripted series is Truce Callaway (APB) and Mark Montgomery as writers and Mace Neufeld (Jack Ryan) as an executive producer.
