‘Karate Kid’ sequel ‘Cobra Kai’: Watch the YouTube Red trailer

A new Karate Kid sequel is coming to YouTube Red and the first trailer for Cobra Kai has just hit online.

Not only is this a continuation of the Karate Kid story, but both Johnny Lawrence and Daniel LaRusso are returning for the new story. According to the synopsis, Daniel and Johnny were rivals in high school, and while they have both changed a lot, their rivalry continues.

Ralph Macchio and William Zabka are bringing their classic characters back and this time it is to the small screen where Cobra Kai is coming to YouTube Red for the sequel.

Now, there is the fact that this sequel is not quite as long-awaited as the trailer makes it sound. First, there was the fact that How I Met Your Mother already had the confrontation when Ted and Marshall invited Ralph Macchio to a bachelor party only to come face-to-face with Zabka, who Barney considered the true hero of Karate Kid.

There is also the entire legendary music video by No More Kings called Sweep the Leg. That video showed where Johnny ended up years after that fateful battle.

With that said, the synopsis for Cobra Kai sounds very interesting.

Johnny has watched his life fall apart and tries to get it all back in order by reopening the notorious dojo that he originally trained at, where the motto is “mercy is for the weak.” Daniel, who is now a car salesman with a family, does not like the idea of the dojo reopening.

the rest of the cast includes Xolo Mariduena (Parenthood), who plays a child bullied in school who Johnny takes under his wing. It is interesting to see that it is Johnny, the original bully from Karate Kid, who plays the role of the mentor to the bullied. It also makes one wonder what role Daniel will play in Cobra Kai.

Johnny also has a son named Robby played by Tanner Buchanan (Designated Survivor), a character that the synopsis said is out to prove that he is nothing like his father. The legendary Ed Asner is Johnny’s dad in Cobra Kai.

As for Daniel, he has a wife Amanda (Courtney Henggeler) and a daughter Samantha (Mary Mouser).
