Final Jessica Jones featurette previews new season
Jessica Jones finally hits Netflix next week and in preparation, the streaming service has released another featurette.
While the clip doesn’t feature a lot of new scenes, it does give more behind-the-scenes looks as well as some comments by the cast. Unlike some of the other Marvel/Netflix shows that have struggled to maintain an even characterization throughout its seasons, the featurette below showcases once again just how in tune every person working on the series is with their characters.
Krysten Ritter has spoken at length about how important Jessica’s story is to tell but it’s always nice to hear her reiterate that point. Having a lead actress who appreciates and understands the responsibility of taking on such an iconic character is a big reason why Jessica Jones has been so successful.

She’s given victims of abuse, people suffering from PTSD and depression a genuine voice as well as someone to look up to. While viewers definitely shouldn’t follow all of her decisions (like the violent ones), there’s something admirable about a person confronting their abuser and trying to move forward with their life.
Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg did share a little more information about the upcoming season and the struggle that all of the characters will deal with: finding themselves. While she speaks, the scenes are filled mainly with Trish, but also Hogarth which is a major clue for season two.
For a while now, it’s been known that the former would be taking her first big steps towards becoming Hellcat, which is probably a journey of self-realization. Trish has always wanted to be a superhero, but she lacked Jessica’s powers in a world where they were necessary to fight crime. It’s safe to say that she will begin to wonder if her resilience and Krav-maga skills will be enough to fight in the city.
It seems like every character in the series will be fighting to find a place in Jessica’s world after stumbling into it last season. Malcolm can be seen demanding his neighbor teach him, however, whether it’s to fight or be a detective is unclear. Hogarth is featured in a lot of new scenes, but none of them give much away as to what her part in this season will be. Yet, she seems to have a fondness and new sense of moral code that she wants to help Jessica in whatever trouble she’s gotten herself into.

Yet, the most insightful part of the Jessica Jones featurette is Rosenberg’s remarks about what the series is. While it’s constantly called a “feminist” show because of its female lead, Rosenberg states that the show isn’t about being from a woman’s perspective. Being a woman isn’t what makes Jessica unique, and it shouldn’t be so shocking that the series is directed entirely by women.
This is a series about overcoming obstacles, whether it’s pain, loss, or trauma, and that is what makes Jessica strong. Jessica Jones is telling a very human story, and it’s heartening to hear a showrunner who wants to see more balance in the industry by encouraging people not to treat a female protagonist as an irregularity but as the new normal.
