Runaways is expected to start production for in April, but little is known about the second season of the hit superhero show.

Marvel has been notoriously secretive regarding their television shows, but speculation about what Runaways season 2 could be about has already begun. With the first season ending on a cliffhanger with the kids becoming wanted fugitives, life for the group is going to be much different from their lavish Los Angeles lifestyle.

One major aspect that loyal fans of the Brian K. Vaughan comics can look forward to is the hostel — the hideout where the kids stay after fleeing their parents. The cave containing an underground hotel is one of the most infamous settings of the Runaways comics, and the showrunners confirmed that it would be featured in the second season.

However, since the series has been a bit more grounded in comparison to the comic book, it’s unclear how this will affect the hostel and how the group stumbles upon it.

While it would make sense to see all of the kids begin learning how to use their powers adequately, there probably won’t be any appearances by vampires or fellow heroes Cloak and Dagger. The latter two will be debuting in their own series on Freeform, and it’s unlikely that they’ll be making an appearance as the heroes sent to retrieve the wrongly accused children. However, Runaways will most likely have the kids start embracing superheroism through new aliases and stopping some petty crime.

Of course, the big question that everyone wants to be answered for season 2 is who the mole is. Comic book fans know the answer is Alex. However, the showrunners have been clear that viewers shouldn’t assume it’s him. Almost every member of the group could be guilty of selling out to Jonah, especially once they have realized how high the stakes are. While Gert and Molly seem like safe bets to not be the traitors, that does leave Karolina, Chase, Nico, and Alex as possible options.

After discovering her father is Jonah and spending some time with him, Karolina is perhaps the most obvious choice out of the group to turn, which rules her out. Also, as the only openly gay character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it doesn’t seem likely that Runaways will turn her into a villain.

Nico’s antagonistic relationship with her parents would make it a pretty big shock for her to end up betraying the group which only leaves Chase and Alex. Both of them harbor a deep love for their parents, and could end up being the person to choose family over friendship.

However, Chase and Gert’s relationship could make it tricky for Runaways to actually make him the mole since they, alongside “Deanoru,” are a fan-favorite couple. Sadly, this leaves Alex as the most logical choice to end up being the person destined to betray the team.

It doesn’t appear as though Victor Mancha or Xavin (despite actress’s Virginia Gardner request) will be appearing on the Hulu series in the second season. However, Runaways splitting time between the kids and adults means the latter will get some focus next year as well. Now that the Deans, Minorus, Steins, and Yorkes’ have joined together against Jonah it will be interesting to see how they play a game of chess against a mastermind. Meanwhile, the Wilder’s remain separate from both groups as they focus on finding Alex but they will undoubtedly have to pick a side in this coming season.

It’s unclear when Runaways will actually debut on Hulu but the second season will have thirteen episodes. The series left off with a lot of questions that viewers want to be answered, and many frail allegiances.
