Margaret Atwood’s 1985 dystopian novel struck a chord with a lot of people when it was first published, and proves that The Handmaid’s Tale is still eerily relevant after its first award-winning season on Hulu.

Now it’s more than a book, more than a show, the red dress of the handmaid is now an icon of the real world women’s movement.

The handmaids, who have become examples of most women’s worst fear, will have to be even stronger to survive what is to come in season 2. Here is a first look at what they have in store.

More from Show Snob

In an interview with The Pool, The Handmaid’s Tale star Elizabeth Moss hinted at the second season being much darker than the first, which is saying something after seeing last season
under the nightmarish totalitarian rule.

Joining the cast in season 2 will be, Clea Duvall (Carnivale), Sydney Sweeney, Cherry Jones, Bradley Whitford of the ‘West Wing’ and Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei. Margaret Atwood herself will also be on set in an advising role as the show moves into an unwritten territory.

I’m looking forward to seeing where the story takes our heroine next in this world of oppression and resistance. The Handmaid’s Tale shows us all that even in the darkest times there is hope if you just keep fighting.
