Saturn Award nominations announced: The Walking Dead leads TV field with 7

Yesterday morning the Saturn Award nominations were announced and it was good news for The Walking Dead.

For the fourth straight year, The Walking Dead leads the TV field with seven nods despite the current season’s lukewarm reception.

The Walking Dead’s list of nominations includes Best Horror Television Series, Best Actor on a Television Series for Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes), Best Supporting Actor for Khary Payton (King Ezekiel), and Best Supporting Actress for both Danai Gurira (Michonne) and Melissa McBride (Carol).

It also picked up a nomination for Best Guest-Starring Performance for Jeffrey Dean Morgan (Negan) and perhaps least surprising of all Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Chandler Riggs (Carl Grimes).

Its sister show Fear the Walking Dead also received three nominations of its own.  The nominations for that show also includes Best Horror Television series, Best Performance by a Younger Actor for Alycia Debnam-Carey (Alicia) and Best Guest-Starring Performance for Michael Greyeyes (Qulataqa).

The Walking Dead is currently wrapping up its eighth season, with episode 12, “The Key” airing on Sunday night, March 18. The eighth season ends on April 15 and the premiere of Fear the Walking Dead season 4 will immediately follow that season finale.
