The Arrowverse is getting a little bigger with the additions of Batwoman and Gotham City for the next crossover.

Fans have been begging Warner Brothers to introduce Gotham City to The CW’s Arrowverse, and the time has finally come. At the network upfronts, it was confirmed that Batwoman would be joining the team for the next crossover event in Gotham.

Kate Kane is one of the most exciting developments in the Arrowverse to look forward to next season. While initially created as a love interest for Bruce Wayne, she has transformed into a strong character in her own right.

The CW has been accused of exploiting the LGBTQ+ fandom in the past but the addition of Batwoman in the Arrowverse is a step in the right direction. Kane stands out in the DC Universe as a proud lesbian woman who isn’t defined solely by her sexuality. Legends of Tomorrow and Black Lightning have both shown the network’s dedication this year to diversity.

She’ll also be the second Arrowverse superhero to be openly Jewish. While Ragman was underused on Arrow, Batwoman could be the series’ second chance handling religion.

At the network upfronts, The CW also confirmed the Gotham City would be introduced to the Arrowverse. The flagship series and Supergirl have both dropped hints about the existence of the Dark Knight in the past. Finally securing the infamous DC Comics city feels like a big show of support from Warner Brothers.

What does that mean for the Arrowverse though? Introducing Gotham opens up a lot of possibilities for the universe. Batwoman is probably only the tip of the iceberg, now that the rest of the Bat Family could make appearances. Warner Brothers could feasibly allow Gotham villains and heroes to make the jump to new cities.

Another exciting possibility is if The CW could have versions of Robin join their universe. Realistically, not all of them will appear in the movies and this an opportunity to make live-action versions of the characters. Specifically, fan-favorite and youngest Robin, Damian Wayne could team up with Jon Kent for a spin-off of their Super Sons comic. Superman and Lois Lane are already happily living together, why not add a son to the mix?

Fans will have to wait a little longer to find out which actress will be playing the iconic Batwoman in the event crossover. However, it will be more interesting to see if the CW keeps the look of Gotham from the FOX series or invents its own take. Either way, the future of the Arrowverse just got a lot more exciting.
