Will Hannah Baker be back for 13 Reasons Why season 3?

The first season of 13 Reasons Why was all about Hannah Baker and even though she died the character played a strong role in season 2 as well.

When asked about the character of Hannah Baker, actress Katherine Langford told EW that, if there is a 13 Reasons Why season 3, her character won’t be back for more.

There are spoilers the follow from 13 Reasons Why season 2.

"“For me, we told Hannah’s story so fully in Season 1. In a way, doing that scene in episode 13 [of Season 2], I’ve so often referred to it as it was the hardest scene because it’s the scene where I had to let her go.”"

Of course, the episode she is talking about is when 13 Reasons Why finally had the memorial service for Hannah Baker so her friends and family could say goodbye.

Despite the entire first season being centered around Hannah’s suicide, the character returned in the second season as a vision that Clay keeps witnessing in his grief and breakdown as the season wears on. In the finale, Hannah Baker’s spirit exits the church as he delivers his eulogy and she finally moves on.

It was a perfect way for Clay to finally let go and her leaving was symbolic of him finally moving on, which also allowed her spirit to move on as well. As a result, Langford said that Hannah coming back in 13 Reasons Why season 3 would be wrong.

Langford compared season 2 to purgatory for Hannah Baker. Now that Clay has allowed her to move on, she can finally go on to a peaceful afterlife.

Of course, anyone who watched season 2 knows that there is a lot going on to make 13 Reasons Why season 3 exciting without ever needing to bring up Hannah Baker again. The thwarted school shooting and the fact that Clay might end up going down for it — as well as a rapist walking free with only probation — leaves a lot of material to mine in the next season, if it happens.
