The Walking Dead has big plans for this character in season 9

Looks like Katelyn Nacon (Enid), will have more to do in Season 9 of The Walking Dead.

There are many questions fans of AMC’s The Walking Dead have as we look forward to Season 9 in October. Will the storyline follow the comic and introduce the Whisperers? Is the show’s main protagonist, Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) really leaving the show? What about Lauren Cohan (Maggie Rhee)? Questions with answers we’ll all get in the future.

One piece of good news, however, (or bad, depending if you dislike her character), is that Katelyn Nacon’s Enid is set to have a bigger role in the coming season.

This piece of news was broken by Johnny O’Dell of the Walking Dead Fan Mailbag, who responded to a fan’s tweet on the subject:

More from AMC

"You know what? Yes, Enid actually will have a bigger role in Season 9 after being mostly relegated to Oceanside and The Hilltop in Season 8."

As O’Dell stated, Enid’s Season 8 arc mostly involved her mission with Aaron to recruit the Oceansiders. It was a smaller subplot, but their combined effort eventually helped save the Hilltop. Enid was also present in the Hilltop for much of the season, acting as one of Maggie’s advisors.

In the past, Enid seemed like she might just be relegated to Carl’s love-interest. Her mysterious behavior included her leaving the safety of Alexandria’s walls and wandering around the surrounding woods. She’d leave JSS (Just Survive Somehow) reminders around to push her will to well–keep surviving. She managed to find Glenn after his near-death dumpster incident and together they made it home safely.

Non-comic characters of The Walking Dead do not have a good track record of surviving long (unless you’re Daryl Dixon). Getting more screen time surely doesn’t mean Enid will keep Just Surviving Somehow, either. This is still encouraging news for fans of Enid, who’s been mostly in the background since her introduction in Season 5. A new, fresh storyline could do wonders for the character.

What role might Enid play now? Could she fill in some of Carl’s comic storyline? If the Maggie-Rick feud happens over the Negan decision,  I’d imagine she’d side with the former and the Hilltop. Will she continue playing babysitter but with more airtime and dialogue? Perhaps, but we’ll roll with any kind of The Walking Dead news we can get till Season 9 comes around.
