Humans preview: Air date, time, trailer and what you need to know
Humans returns to AMC and here’s everything you need to know about season three.
The synths have always faced an uphill battle on Humans and it doesn’t look like this year will be any different. From the trailer, it looks like the series will be picking up where last season left off. With the synths finally unlocking their consciousness, it seems like people will be quick to reject them. Luckily, it looks like the Hawkins will still be firmly on the side of their extended synth family in season three.
However, a behind-the-scenes video released by the network teases some of the upcoming drama. A new generation of synths have been born, their orange eyes distinguishing them from the originals. Unfortunately, the humans have rejected our green-eyed protagonists and now live in a “synth community” underground.

The video also gives viewers a glimpse of some of the relationships to come. Maddie and Leo can be seen a few times, as well as Max and the purple-haired synth from last season. No word yet whether Niska’s girlfriend or Mia’s former flame Ed will return though. It does look like the Hawkins’ marriage might have hit a speed bump though. This won’t surprise long-time viewers considering the two began to have differing opinions on synths.
However, the most important takeaway is that all of the newly conscious synths will be unique. Their previous experiences will shape their views on humanity, and Humans looks like it will introduce some angry radicals. There are four new major characters joining season three who will all shake things up.
Anatole is a charming but zen synth who advises Max but one has to wonder if he’s playing the group. Meanwhile, Agnes seems to be filling the role Hester left behind as someone furious with the inequality between humans and synths.
The Hawkins family get the other two characters: Stanley and Neil. The latter is a behavioral scientist who comes in and seems to charm Laura Hawkins while her marriage is on the rocks. Stanley is a new orange eyed synth assigned to the Hawkins, and undoubtedly the family will treat him as one of their own.
Humans’ season three premiere teases an uneasy future after a one-year time jump. The official synopsis doesn’t give all the much away but enough to know things are still difficult.
"1 year after the dawning of synth consciousness, Leo is still in a coma leaving Max, Mia and Flash to broker an uneasy peace with the fearful human world. Laura’s fight for synth rights receives an unexpected boost."
Interestingly enough, the synopsis doesn’t mention Niska, Maddie, or Karen. Both of them are the wildcards this season because the government can’t be happy with Maddie’s decision to unlock synth consciousness. On the other side, it seems unlikely that Niska would join her brothers and sisters in the fight for peace. Her upbringing has left her resentful and cautious of most humans, so she could have decided to live out her days peacefully with Astrid.
Karen is a more interesting story because she ended the second season of Humans adopting a synth child. Have people grown so fearful of them that they have begun killing the kids? It will certainly be an interesting moral dilemma to see play out.
