After giving fans a glimpse of what to expect for season two of The Sinner with a teaser trailer earlier this year, the USA Network has released an unnerving, full-length trailer, as seen on CinemaBlend.

As was the case with season one of The Sinner, we know who the killer is right away, although their motive is unknown.

Season two follows the story of Julian, a thirteen-year-old boy who has brutally murdered both of his parents in a hotel room.

Bill Pullman returns as Detective Harry Ambrose, who returns to his small rural hometown to investigate the murder.

Of course, the town is swimming in secrets and sinister characters, which come to the surface during the investigation.

Detective Ambrose is joined by rookie detective Heather (Natalie Paul), who is reeling from the return of her childhood friend Marin (Hannah Gross), who was previously missing.

Carrie Coon (The Leftovers, Fargo) stars as Vera, and it looks like she’s headed to be the villain of the series.

EW reports that Vera is “a formidable, mysterious woman who struggles between upholding the ideals of the community she leads and fulfilling her desires.”

This trailer also reveals more information about the crime.

We find out that Julian’s parents took him to a hotel – but didn’t pack a bag for him, which lead to the question: What were they planning to do to him?

We also discover that Julian’s parents were poisoned, even though the crime scene is a bloody mess. What exactly happened to Julian’s parents?

While Jessica Biel received critical acclaim her role in season one, she’ll be staying behind the scenes as an executive producer for season two.

Her role as Cora Tannetti, a housewife who murders a man on the beach in broad daylight for seemingly no reason, earned her a Golden Globe nod.

Season two of The Sinner will premiere August 1 on the USA Network.
