Mayans MC, the spinoff of the hit FX show Sons of Anarchy, will premier on Tuesday, September 4 at 10 pm.

The show is set in the same world of Sons of Anarchy, but it takes place after lead character Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) dies and Ezekiel “EZ” Reyes (J.D. Pardo) is released from prison.

Upon his release, EZ becomes an aspiring member of the Mayans MC near the Mexican-California border. Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is one of the two minds behind the project, along with Elgin James.

Among the show’s cast is veteran actor Edward James Olmos. His roles in Battlestar Galactica, Miami Vice, and Stand and Deliver are just several of his many impressive film and television credits.

The show follows the example set by Breaking Bad.

Breaking Bad ran for five seasons and was a smash hit for the entire time, but the show didn’t follow the model set by countless hit shows. Instead of dragging the show out for season-after-season, the show’s creators created a prequel to Breaking Bad called Better Call Saul.

The show featured a lot of the same characters Breaking Bad fans had come to know and appreciate, but it showed them in a different element and explored their respective backstories. It gave viewers a look into how the world of Walter White came to be.

Creating a sequel to Sons of Anarchy is a respectable idea. It allows fans to immerse themselves in the same world they have come to know, but at the same time, it allows the writers to explore new storylines and gives viewers something fresh.
