Holy smokes, it’s official! Downton Abbey will hit the big screens–and some of our favorites with it!

This Downton Abbey news from Deadline startled and excited fans everywhere because the Crawley family and company returning to our lives is the best news any of us could probably get. Focus Features alongside Carnival Films will begin production this summer on the long-rumored film.

Even more exciting? Most of the original cast including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville, and many of the others will return to play their iconic roles. More Maggie Smith? Yes, please!

More from Show Snob

Julian Fellowes, the creator of Downton Abbey, wrote the screenplay for the film and will produce it with Gareth Neame and Liz Trubridge. The director of the series pilot is also on board to direct the film so it’s safe to assume everyone is returning for this big event!

Over the course of six seasons, Downton Abbey followed the lives of the Crawley family and their servants. The show aired on ITV in the UK, and PBS in the U.S. and very quickly gained a huge fan following all over the world. The show went on to snag a BAFTA, three Golden Globes, and 15 Emmys. It was the most nominated for a non-US television in Emmys history–yes, it was that great.

As far as what the movie will be about is yet to be revealed but after six seasons of joy, heartbreak, and love we can only imagine what they will come up with. The series finale, however, did end on a happy note with everyone ending up where they were meant to–Edith getting married, Mary getting pregnant again, and Anna and Bates having their first child.

Let’s not forget the adorable downstairs crew who also found their corner of happiness including Mrs. Patmore, Daisy, and Baxter. Even Thomas redeemed himself before the series’ end and earned the respect of the family (and viewers).

It doesn’t seem like every character will return to the set of the film, but the location will be the same, the vibe will be the same, and there isn’t much more we could ask for, right?
