The Walking Dead adds another familiar face from the comics for season 9.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead is only about a month away but that still hasn’t stopped more casting news coming in.  In the latest bit of casting news, actress Cassady McClincy has been cast as Lydia, daughter of Alpha, leader of the Whisperers.

Up until now, McClincy’s most notable credits to her name have been a small role in Love, Simon and a recurring role in the Hulu series Castle Rock.

In the comics, Lydia naturally served as part of the Whisperers initially.  After being taken prisoner at the Hilltop, however, she defects from her mother and the Whisperers and eventually fights against them when the inevitable showdown occurs.

She also ends up forming a relationship with Carl that eventually becomes sexual.  Obviously with Carl’s death last season, things are going to have to be changed around in that respect.  The most painless solution would probably be to transfer Lydia’s romance arc to another character though it’s not clear who it would be.  It wouldn’t be the first time a major comic event was given to another character when it came time for the TV adaptation.

In the comics, Lydia has a complicated relationship with her mother, to say the least.  Alpha would routinely allow her daughter to get raped in a horribly misguided attempt at tough love. Interestingly enough though she would eventually ask Rick to take her in reasoning Lydia would be better off there than with the Whisperers.

Season 9 of The Walking Dead will premiere on AMC October 7th.
