Mayans MC is another big win for FX!

The premiere of Mayans MC was a huge ratings hit in all key demographics, but was particularly successful with the critical age group 18-49, as the show’s premiere was the highest rated cable drama in that particular demographic since American Crime Story: The People vs. OJ Simpson premiered in January of 2016.

Mayans MC was also the highest rated premiere of a new show since the debut episode of American Crime Story as well.

While there is no doubt that Sons of Anarchy built up a huge and dedicated following over its highly successful run, the fact that the Mayans MC premiere was the best showing a debut has gotten since the premiere of American Crime Story is impressive.

Not only did season one of ACS get smash ratings, universal critical acclaim, and numerous awards, but since the story of the OJ Simpson trial and its real-life characters are so deeply entrenched in the public consciousness, the show was almost guaranteed to be a hit.

Because not only did the show introduce an entirely new generation to the drama caused by the infamous crime and its subsequent trial, it also showed the background of how and why events occurred for everyone, including those that watched the trial unfold in real-time.

The fact that Mayans MC is the best debut a show has gotten since that is high praise indeed for Kurt Sutter, the show’s other creators, and the entire cast. Especially since FX has been home to many fine shows that have premiered since ACS, such as Feud, another one of Ryan Murphy’s shows.
