The Romanoffs: Official trailer for new Amazon original series from Matthew Weiner
Amazon has released an official trailer for Matthew Weiner’s star-studded new Prime Original anthology series, The Romanoffs.
A new trailer for The Romanoffs, which was created, written, directed, and executive produced by Mad Men‘s Weiner, was released following last month’s teaser.
While the teaser focused on the series’ stacked cast, the trailer sheds some light on its story.
The show revolves around people who believe they are descendants of the titular Russian royal family. While some appreciate their royal connection, others have a more problematic relationship with their historical bloodline.

The show will feature eight different storylines set in seven countries around the world. In fact, the expensive series was shot on location in Europe, the Americas, and the Far East.
While Amazon’s Prime streaming service typically releases all the episodes of its shows at one time, it’s following a different plan in the case of The Romanoffs. The first two episodes of the series — “The Violet Hour” starring Marthe Keller and Aaron Eckhart and “The Royal We” starring Corey Stoll, Kerry Bishe, Janet Montgomery, and Noah Wiley — will premiere on October 12. Then, new episodes will be released weekly.
Several Mad Men alum are on board for the series, including John Slattery, Christina Hendrix, Cara Buono, and Jay R. Ferguson. The show also features a long list of other notable actors, such as Diane Lane, Amanda Peet, Isabelle Huppert, Andrew Rannels, Paul Reiser, Kathryn Hahn, Mary Kay Place, Clea Duvall, Radha Mitchell, and many more.
The series was likely able to score its impressive cast because it was Weiner’s return to television following the award-winning run of Mad Men and because, as an anthology, the show required less of a time commitment from each actor.
It remains to be seen if The Romanoffs‘ high concept, big budget, and accomplished cast all add up to a critically acclaimed show. However one thing is clear: with its auteur creator, multiple locations, and stars of all stripes, the series has something to attract almost everyone.
