The Umbrella Academy: Netflix renews series for season 2!
The Umbrella Academy will return!
After becoming an overnight hit, Netflix has officially handed their comic book adaptation a renewal. Deadline reports The Umbrella Academy will get a ten-episode second season with the entire cast expected to return.
Warning: Spoilers for The Umbrella Academy season 1
The comics, written by Gerard Way and illustrated by Gabrial Bá, focuses on a dysfunctional family of heroes who struggle with their upbringing. The grown-up children spend the majority of the first season trying to prevent the incoming apocalypse while coping with the loss of their emotionally distant (arguably abusive) adopted father.

In the finale, Vanya (Ellen Page), unbottled years of emotional repression to get vengeance on both her family and the world. Realizing that their sister will always cause the apocalypse no matter how hard they try to kill her, the family decides to travel to a different time to help her. If they can repair their sibling bond than it’s possible she won’t try to destroy the world.
The Umbrella Academy has a lot of interesting directions they could take with season 2. Klaus (Robert Sheehan) managed to improve his powers towards the end of the season allowing his deceased brother, Ben (Justin Min), to aid his family from the afterlife. Meanwhile, Allison (Emmy Raver-Lampman) will have to cope with no longer being able to see her daughter and the loss of her powers.
Eldest brother, Luther (Tom Hopper), ended the season becoming one of the more disliked characters from the series. He will undoubtedly need to forge a new identity for himself now that he realizes his father wasn’t the great man he once thought. His rival sibling, Diego (David Castañeda) may actually get along with his family this season since he will need their support as he copes with the death of his friend.
Finally, The Umbrella Academy never revealed the first name of Number Five (Aidan Gallagher) but the character was easily the breakout star of the series. He’s back on the run from the Commission again and trying to protect his family. At least he won’t be the only family member stuck in his teenage body since the finale had all of the kids transforming to their younger selves.
The series is expected to begin production this summer which hopefully means the new season will debut sometime next year. Steve Blackman is also returning to serve as the showrunner and executive producer.
