Showtime’s other Chicago based drama, The Chi, returns April 7. What should fans anticipate in Season 2? Here is what is known so far.

Showtime is giving Chicago plenty of screen time. America’s Second City has so many stories to tell, and The Chi sheds light on the hard times that even Shameless cannot touch. Creator Lean Waithe and executive producer Common carry more cache when speaking to some of the more grim issues plaguing the Southside of The Chi.

The Chi can be a beautiful place, even in dark times.

The murder of a young Chicago prep star touched the lives of several groups of drastically different characters. One innocent kid being in the wrong place at the wrong time cost him his life. That is the everyday reality in a city with multiple murders a day.

It is not all bad in The Chi, especially when Papa (Shamon Brown) is on the block. Constantly dropping knowledge and expanding his versatile repertoire of skills, Papa is definitely the most beloved character on The Chi.

Papa is not actually a father, but that Showtime teaser did say fatherhood would be a main theme of season two.

Emmett (Jacob Lattimore) is a child trying to understand and appreciate being a father. Emmett also has a hypebeast shoe addiction. Learning to balance his responsibilities with his retail expenses was tough, but Emmett was able to drop most unnecessary habits. According to the Showtime The Chi Season 2 landing page, Emmett is going for full custody.
