One of those Game of Thrones “successor shows” will take place in the Age of Heroes and star Naomi Watts.

When any massively popular show comes to an end, the question is always “what’s next” – and Game of Thrones is no different.

There have been rumors for months about spinoffs, or “successor shows” as George R. R. Martin likes to call them. And some are already dead in the water.

But Martin ensures fans that at least three are still very much in development. On his blog, he said,

"“The one I am not supposed to call THE LONG NIGHT will be shooting later this year, and two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer. What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of FIRE & BLOOD and come up with your own theories.”"

The show he wants to call “The Long Night” is set to be a prequel set many of years before the current show’s timeline, set in the “Age of Heroes.” Naomi Watts (Birdman), Jamie Campbell Bower (Twilight Saga: New Moon), Georgie Henley (The Chronicles of Narnia), and Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire). Filming is slated to being sometime during summer 2019 as the show searches for a director.

HBO programming president Casey Bloys says that a second spinoff won’t begin production until the first one is more developed and ready-to-go.

As far as “Fire & Blood,” it’s Martin’s book that covers the history of House Targaryen and Aegon the Conqueror, who created the Iron Throne. And since we’ve only gotten to know about four Targaryens on Game of Thrones, and glimpses and mentions of others, it could be an exciting premise for a show.

I am all about Game of Thrones spinoff shows. But I’d like to see the same quality we see today. I’d had to have another Friends/Joey situation on our hands. But if it could turn out to be a Cheers/Frasier situation, I’m all for it!

What do you think the Game of Thrones spinoffs will be about?
