HBO drops official Big Little Lies season 2 trailer
With the release of the season 2 Big Little Lies trailer, you still have a few weeks to catch up before it returns. Spoilers ahead!
Big Little Lies returns to our screens in June. And HBO released a trailer for the Emmy-winning drama’s upcoming second season to give us something to snack on while we wait.
Suspense, intrigue, and bombshells – who would have thought second grade would be so intense?
Kidding aside, the Monterey Five – made up of Madeline MacKenzie (Reese Witherspoon), Celeste Wright (Nicole Kidman), Jane Chapman (Shailene Woodley), Renata Klein (Laura Dern), and Bonnie Carlson (Zoe Kravitz) – are about to send their kids off to a new school year.

Judging by the trailer, not much seems to have changed, except for the fact that the ladies are holding on to a massive secret: How Celeste’s husband (Alexandar Skarsgård) actually died.
The women, now bonded, try to move on. Madeline is still snarky and busting chops, while Renata’s “I’d-like-to-speak-to-your-manager” personality thrives. Jane seems to have taken a love interest, now that her rapist is officially out of the picture. And Bonnie, having been the one that pushed Perry, causing him to fall and die, is living with extreme guilt.
Celeste, who was just about to leave Perry when he died, is now dealing with the arrival of her mother-in-law Mary Louise, played by the Oscar-winning Meryl Streep. And if you think Mary Louise is simply trying to help a widowed Celeste take care of her rambunctious twin boys, think again.
She wants answers. She suspects Celeste knows more than she’s letting on. She’s also dropping truth nuggets of her own… like how Perry was having an affair.
Whoa!
Will the ladies of Monterey Bay be able to keep their secret for another seven episodes? We’ll see when Big Little Lies returns June 9 on HBO.
