Netflix’s release date and first look for The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance
Netflix has announced that The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance is set to be released on August 30 of this year. Netflix has also released a number of first look photos of the Jim Henson prequel series.
Netflix’s highly anticipated and all star The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance has set a release date for August 30, according to a report from Deadline.
The series is a prequel to Jim Henson’s classic 1982 film The Dark Crystal, in which a Gelfling named Jen sets off on a quest to restore balance to his world by returning the broken shard of a powerful gem. The upcoming series tells the story of the Gelfling rebellion, in which three Gelfling learn the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis’ power and set out on an adventure to reveal the truth and begin a rebellion to save their world.
The original film incorporated many distictive and groundbreaking stylistic and animatronic innovations, thanks mostly to the vision and creativity of Jim Henson and his team. If the first look photos released by Netflix are any indication, the series will stay true to that stylistic foundation.
The series looks every bit like it belongs in the world of Thra, which is no surprise considering that the series is produced by The Jim Henson Company and executive produced by Lisa Henson, Jim Henson’s daughter. Still, in a time of reboots and reimaginings, one never knows what bright idea might have pushed for an unnecessary and inappropriate re-styling of the world.
