Neil Gaiman’s Sandman is being adapted into an expensive Netflix Series

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sandman’s Netflix Adaptation is said to be the most expensive DC TV Show yet.

There have been multiple attempts to bring this character to the screen but all of them have failed so far but at last The Sandman comic book series by Neil Gaiman has been acquired by Netflix with a deal that is said to be massively bonkers.

The Hollywood Reporter published the news over the weekend that a deal was in the works, and it also mentioned that this will be DC’s most expensive TV show yet.

The first comic in the series was published by DC in 1989, in which the Dream King Morpheus wakes up from 70 years of captivity at the hands of a mortal. The series ran for 75 issues, Sandman has also been described as impossible to bring to live-action as the previous attempts have failed miserably. Last time when it was about to be adapted into a movie, Joseph Gordon-Levitt who has been a long time fan of the franchise had acquired the rights and was gonna direct it but he later left the film altogether because of creative differences.

Netflix has ordered 11 episodes of the series and the show is described as:

"“a rich blend of modern myth and dark fantasy in which contemporary fiction, historical drama, and legend are seamlessly interwoven”."

Neil Gaiman will be writing the first episode with the showrunners Allan Heinberg (who co-wrote the recent Wonder Woman) and David S Goyer. Gaiman has recently successfully adapted his book Good Omens to live screen and is now set to repeat the magic, he said that the first seasons would only cover the first 8 comics in the series.

Gaiman also tweeted about it sharing his excitement and expectations.

Netflix also shared their excitement and expectations regarding the show.
