Agents of SHIELD: Marvel series will end after season 7
Agents of SHIELD is coming to an end after season 7.
It’s been a long journey for Agents of SHIELD, starting out as one of the most anticipated new series before struggling to retain viewers after a handful of disappointing episodes. However, the show quickly found its footing in the second half and began to improve with each season. Now, it has established itself as one of the best superhero shows to air and it will undoubtedly be going out on a high note in season 7.
The ABC series will be at San Diego Comic-Con today at Hall H where the cast will most likely speak about what’s in store for fans. While it hasn’t been a ratings juggernaut for ABC, Agents of SHIELD has become a stable performer with good DVR ratings as well as a passionate fanbase.
Jeph Loeb spoke to Deadline about the show ending and whether there’s a possibility of it returning in the future. With Disney+ expected to debut sometime in the fall, it does feel like any Marvel show canceled could always live on there.

"I personally believe that every great Marvel story ends to be continued, but the short answer is, yes, it will conclude in a way that is incredibly emotional and in the best ways. It’s funny, it’s heartbreaking, it’s…it’s a classic, exactly."
However, he wouldn’t get into specifics about how the show would end. He refused to answer whether the finale could be a two hour event or even what fans could expect. However, Deadline did try to find out if any major guest stars could pop back up. Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) have both made appearances in the past. Loeb still remained quiet but his non-answer feels like something could be in the works.
"You have to wait and see. Or as we used to say, that’s a level seven question."
Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen have done a fantastic job thus far and the two are definitely up to the task of telling a satisfying ending. Hopefully, Marvel keeps them in mind for any future projects.
Speaking of people sticking around, it would be great to see some of the other characters remain in the Marvel Universe. Chloe Bennet’s Daisy Johnson is a popular hero in the comics and the actress has been fantastic throughout the show. In the comics she’s gone on to lead SHIELD and her power level could certainly place her alongside some of the other MCU heroes.
