Ben Lewis promoted to series regular on final season of Arrow

Ben Lewis, the actor who plays the adult version of Oliver Queen’s son William, will now be a series regular for Arrow season 8.

Looks like both of Oliver Queen’s children will be playing leading roles in the final season of Arrow. After it was announced that Katharine McNamara, who plays Oliver and Felicity Smoak’s adult daughter Mia on the show, had been promoted to a series regular earlier this month, Deadline reports that Ben Lewis, who plays the adult version of Oliver’s son William Clayton, has also been bumped up for the show’s swan song.

This news will come as no surprise to many viewers, who were expecting most of the future timeline supporting cast to be promoted following the announcement that Joseph David-Jones (Conor Hawke) had been upped to a regular.

Both McNamara and Lewis featured in the future timeline of Arrow season 7, where they played a pivotal role (along with David-Jones and Andrea Sixtos) in stopping the villainous Galaxy One corporation and to bring down the wall separating the prosperous Glades from poverty-stricken Star City.

To protect the young heroes from the anti-vigilante laws, the older versions of Team Arrow took the fall for the acts and have gone into hiding. This means the next generation will be stepping into shoes of their predecessors for the final season.

While Mia takes after her father, Lewis’ William is a tech genius, picking up many skills from his adoptive mother Felicity Smoak. With these casting announcements, it remains to be seen if Sixtos’ Zoe Ramirez will also become a regular. She is one of the few surviving Canaries in the future, making her an essential weapon in future Team Arrow’s arsenal.

All eyes are on how the Arrowverse shows will handle this year’s crossover event “Crisis on Infinite Earths” and what role the future Team Arrow will play in the event. Could past and future be brought together to save the universe? We will only find out later this year.

Arrow season 8 will return for its last hurrah on October 5, 2019.
