Critically acclaimed British TV series Top Boy returns soon with season three of the crime drama. Drake and Netflix saved the show, here’s everything Show Snob knows.

Yes “blud” – there’s not long to wait until summer is over and Top Boy is back with a 13-episode season three on Netflix. Oh, how I’ve missed this show!

You may have guessed by now if you read my articles that I’m English, yet have a penchant for well-crafted and exciting American things. Well, this is the marriage of that in the opposite sense.

USA recording artist, actor, entrepreneur and general media genius, Drake, revived this ingeniously gritty, yet beautiful, canceled television program. Though its conception, as well as acclaim, is very British indeed. We pick up the story with Dushane and Sully in a fictional East London housing estate called “Summer House”; or “Summa Haas” if you want a cockney 101 lesson (think Tom Hardy in Legend). And no, that isn’t rhyming slang, by the way.

There’s not a lot of facts available on the upcoming series as of yet, although if you take a trip over to IMDb they have pictures etcetera of season three, to get the juices flowing.

And you definitely shouldn’t miss out on the first trailer on YouTube, which looks “fire”, as they say. This comes following a six-year hiatus since season two.

Rappers Dave and Little Simz are fresh additions to the cast. Of course, stars Kane “Kano” Robinson and Ashley Walters are also UK hip-hop royalty. Though Walters seems to have ditched his So Solid “Asher D” alter ego.

Here Walters talks reuniting and who to thank:

"“Drake revived Top Boy, if I’m honest with you. You’ve got to give him a lot of credit.“Drake had seen the show. He reached out to me and was like ‘Show’s amazing, when’s it coming back on?’ I told him ‘It’s not happening’ and he said ‘I’m not having that.’ Two years later, Drake came to us with a Netflix deal and was like ‘There you go.’ So currently, he’s Executive Producer.”– Ashley WaltersVia: Rolling Stone"

The nation (world) awaits

Drake hasn’t solely created the buzz for the revival of Top Boy, it is a phenomenally well produced piece of television history. Although with Drake’s involvement, there is a global anticipation. If you’re new to Top Boy I can assure you that your time will be well spent by catching up now on Netflix.

"According to Netflix, “The new episodes pick up as Dushane (Ashley Walters) returns from exile to his home in London to reclaim his throne in the highly lucrative drug market.”Via: Radio Times"

In fact, Aubrey “Drake” Graham gave an explanation of why his love of the depiction, along with the acting, inspired him to rescue the series:

"“that human element drew me in,” he added. “I started just looking them up. Like, who are these people? Are these actors I should know? Are they just famous over there? I remember I hit “Future”, and I was just like, ‘This show is incredible.'”– Via: Hollywood Reporter"

It has also been confirmed that Drake has kept this production particularly real: he reconvened all the initial writers, director and producers. All in all, this sounds like a superb project notion by the rapper; not to mention honouring the original elements to make it happen. Show Snob cannot wait! Catch Top Boy this Autumn – a more precise date will be forthcoming, we are informed.
